NCER Overview
The National Conference on Ecosystem Restoration (NCER) is an interdisciplinary conference on large-scale ecosystem restoration presenting state-of-the art science and engineering, planning and policy in a partnership environment. NCER brings together scientists, engineers, policy makers, planners, and partners representing government, industry, NGOs, tribes, academia, and a variety of entities actively involved in ecosystem restoration. Plenary and concurrent sessions feature presentations on large-scale and small-scale restoration in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems from across the country and the local region.
NCER attendees have an opportunity to learn, connect, establish new collaborations, gain valuable experience, and discover innovative approaches being employed by others — just a few of the many benefits of participating in NCER!
Why Omaha?
Omaha’s location near the juncture of the Platte and Missouri rivers provides access to the wide, flat valley of the Platte . . and the city derives its name from the Omaha Indian word meaning “upstream people”. Comprised of wetlands, rivers and streams, prairies, and woodlands, Nebraska boasts a wide diversity of flora and fauna, with a grassland stronghold and a forested landscape, too. There’s something for everyone!

Explore the Opportunities
Conference participants have the opportunity to learn about both large-scale and small local ecosystem restoration efforts and what their colleagues working at these levels have learned, what factors contributed to success, and how barriers and obstacles were overcome.
NCER further explores the roles of policy, planning and science in establishing goals and performance expectations for achieving successful and sustainable ecosystem restoration. We will also look at the importance of considering ecosystem services in restoration cost:benefit discussions. Successful partnerships and means to leverage resources are important themes that run through this conference.
Previous NCERs established a forum for individuals engaged in all aspects of ecosystem restoration to exchange information and experiences. This and future NCERs will continue this tradition by being the leading National conference for interdisciplinary exchanges for sustainable restoration of ecosystems.
