Call for Abstracts

Submission Deadline: October 6, 2021

The UF Water Institute and Duke Energy invite you to participate in the 8th biennial UF Water Institute Symposium. The Symposium will bring together individuals from a broad range of disciplines and organizations to explore water issues from multiple perspectives. The 2022 Symposium will focus on innovative science, technology, education, policy, and management advances that address the following themes:

  • Water Quality Drivers and Impacts on Public, Wildlife and Ecosystem Health
  • Water Availability, Valuation, Allocation and Reuse
  • Climate Change and Sea Level Rise Impacts on Ecosystems and Communities
  • Water Governance and Environmental Justice

Symposia presentations, posters and panels will address biological, physical, social, economic, engineering, management, policy and regulatory aspects within and across these water issues. The Planning Committee encourages oral and poster presentations that:

  • Present innovative Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods, monitoring and modeling approaches
  • Focus on public perceptions, science communication, education, and stakeholder engagement
  • Consider influences across a full range of spatial and temporal scales

Student Poster Competition

Student poster authors are eligible to compete for “Best Poster” awards based on the quality of the abstract, poster and discussion. Four poster winners will receive prizes of $1,000 each to be used as funding to support future participation at a national conference.

2022 Extension Scholarship: UF/IFAS Extension is providing scholarships for County and Regional Extension agents to attend, present and/or judge at the Water Institute’s 8th biennial symposium.

2022 Water Symposium Student Diversity Scholarships: The Water Institute, with support from UF/IFAS College of Agricultural and Life Sciences and UF/IFAS Office of Research, is providing financial support for students from traditionally underrepresented groups in higher education* to participate in the Water Institute Symposium.

*Students who self-identify as members from the Black, Hispanic, Native-American/Native-Alaskan, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, LGTBQ+ communities, as well as persons with disabilities and first-generation students.

Follow these steps to prepare and submit an abstract:

  1. Use this Word Template to create a perfectly formatted abstract.
    • Abstract title cannot exceed 100 characters with spaces
    • Abstracts should not exceed 300 words.
    • Do not include graphs or figures.
    • Please include a brief bio of 50 worlds or less at the end of your abstract (see template).
  2. Indicate your preferred format (oral/poster) but please note that final decisions will be made by program committee.
  3. Proofread your abstract carefully, and be sure to obtain all applicable institutional approvals prior to submission.
  4. Submit your abstract by October 6, 2021 using the online form linked by the button below. (Do not email your file. Files sent as email attachments will not be reviewed)
  5. Please keep in mind that presenters will be asked to register and pay the symposium fee when their abstract is accepted to confirm their participation. Registration will open September 9, 2021. The deadline for presenter registration is December 14, 2021.

Submission Confirmation

After completing the online submission form, a confirmation is instantly emailed to you confirming transmission of the abstract. If you do not receive this email, check your spam folder.

Accepted abstracts will be notified in mid November 2021, informing you the status of your abstract acceptance and presentation format (oral or poster). If accepted, you will be advised of the date, time, format and number of the session in which you are scheduled to speak. A computer projector and Windows 10 laptop with Microsoft PowerPoint will be provided for all speaker presentations during the conference.
