Student Volunteer Opportunity

The UF Water Institute appreciates your willingness to help make this year's symposium a huge success by volunteering your service!

To be considered for the student volunteer opportunity, please indicate your interest when asked on the symposium registration form.

Why Volunteer?

In return for service, student volunteers will have the advantage of networking with industry professionals while getting a behind the scenes look at the symposium. In addition, volunteers receive verbal and printed recognition for their contribution.

Volunteer Responsibilities

Volunteers typically serve in the following capacities:

Registration Assistance: Volunteers will help at the conference registration desk, welcoming attendees, distributing nametags, and handing out materials. This is a great opportunity to meet attendees and make face-to-face connections.

Registration assistance is needed 7:30am – 8:30am on Tuesday and Wednesday. You will not be scheduled to work registration during session hours.

Poster Session Assistance: Volunteers assigned to the Tuesday evening Poster Session (5:30pm – 7:30pm) will assist the poster competition judges and the symposium staff as needed.

Moderator/AV Assistance: Volunteers will assist moderators by helping with AV and the transistion between speakers while the moderator introduces them. You may also need to help with roving mics during Q&A in larger rooms if applicable, and distributing handouts should anyone ask for assistance. Session requests as a Moderator/AV assistant will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Additional Assistance: Volunteers will help with attendee bag stuffing about a week before the symposium start dates.

How Do I Apply to be a Volunteer?

When registering for the symposium, indicate "Yes” when asked if you would be interested in the volunteer opportunity.

How Are Volunteers Assigned?

Once volunteers are selected in January 2020, we will email volunteers the agenda and ask for their preferred volunteer role and available times.

Session requests as a Moderator/AV assistant are confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis. It is possible someone else may have already signed up for a volunteer’s preferred session, so in some instances, we may not always be able to grant requests.

Volunteer Training Meeting

Before the conference begins, a training session is conducted to familiarize volunteers with the audiovisual equipment, meeting room set-up, registration area, and symposium area. In this meeting, any final questions about the volunteer role are addressed. The 2020 Volunteer Training Meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 24. Time to be determined.
