Call for Pre-Conference Workshop Proposals
Proposal Submission Closes: June 30, 2025
The ForestSAT 2026 Program Committee invites those interested in organizing a pre-conference workshop to submit a proposal that provides hands-on training and practical learning experiences in cutting-edge tools, technologies, and methodologies related to forestry and remote sensing. These workshops aim to equip participants with practical skills and insights they can directly apply to their research and professional work.
Pre-Conference Workshop Details:
ForestSAT 2026 will feature a day of pre-conference workshops with the following parameters:
- Duration: Choose between a 3-hour instructional session (3.5-hour block with one 30-minute break, or a 6-hour instructional session (8-hour block with two 30-minute breaks and one-hour lunch).
- Participants: Limited to a max 30 participants per workshop to ensure meaningful interaction and personalized guidance.
Workshop Topics of Interest:
Remote Sensing Data Processing
- Advanced workflows in Google Earth Engine for environmental and forestry analysis.
- Open-source tools for airborne and terrestrial lidar data, including processing and visualization.
- Spaceborne lidar (e.g., ICESat-2; GEDI): Techniques for forest canopy structure analysis, biomass estimation, and terrain mapping.
Deep Learning Applications
- Training and deploying deep learning models for forest monitoring, species classification, and land cover change detection.
- Integrating AI tools with geospatial datasets for large-scale analysis.
Forest Carbon and Biodiversity Analysis
- Tools and methodologies for quantifying forest carbon stocks and biodiversity using geospatial and remote sensing data.
- Best practices for combining remote sensing datasets with field data for ecological assessments.
Emerging Trends in Forestry Research
- Hands-on applications of innovative technologies, such as UAVs (drones), for forest management.
- Data visualization techniques for complex forestry datasets.
Proposal Evaluation Criteria:
When developing your workshop description, keep these factors in mind:
- Relevance to the ForestSAT 2026 themes.
- Practical applicability of the skills or tools being taught.
- Clarity of objectives and workshop structure.
- Feasibility and alignment with participant capacity and resources.
All workshops will be live and in-person. This will not be a hybrid conference.
As the Workshop Organizer:
- Plan to attend the conference in person on the dates of May 4-8, 2026.
- Serve as the primary contact and moderator for the workshop. We will communicate with one official representative per workshop.
- Commit to register and pay to attend the conference by January 16, 2026. (Registration fees will be announced soon!)
Steps to Develop a Workshop Proposal:
- Use the Workshop Proposal Template (.docx) to create a workshop proposal to include:
- Proposed Workshop Title (Concise and descriptive)
- Workshop Description/Abstract (Including goals, content and target audience)
- Learning Objectives (Key skills or knowledge participants will gain by attending)
- Basic Workshop Agenda/Format (Structure, e.g. lecture, discussion, hands-on)
- List Participant Requirements (Logistical needs, e.g. hardware, software, etc.)
- Participant Prerequisites (Knowledge level - beginner, intermediate, or advanced)
- Workshop Organizer Information (Name, affiliation, contact details for instructors)
- Submit your proposal via our online form by June 30, 2025. This deadline will not be extended.
Please Note: We reserve the right not to accept proposed workshops if the space is limited, and to cancel a workshop if an organizer is not able to adhere to the prescribed deadlines.
