If you want to learn more about the desert southwest – now is your chance. This year’s NCER features an optional pre and post conference field trip. Attendance is limited, and advance registration is required. Field trip registration is closed. Email bmt@ufl.edu to find out if a spot is available.

This tour begins with an overview while traveling to the site on invasive species management and restoration work on the Rio Grande floodplain within the Santa Ana Pueblo. While at the Pueblo, participants will take part in a walking tour (~ 2 miles) through the bosque adjacent to the river featuring grassland and riparian restoration, and riverine and bank stabilization projects. The tour includes a box lunch to be provided at the Pueblo and then return trip to the hotel.

This tour begins with an orientation while on the bus traveling to the site. A welcome presentation will be provided by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) staff. While onsite, participants will take part in a walking tour (~ 1.7 miles) featuring stops at restoration sites including floodplain habitat, irrigation infrastructure, and stormwater features being used as waterflow and native avian habitat. At the end of the tour, participants will be taken to the Visitor Center for lunch and time will be giving to visit the surroundings and gift shop. The bus will return to the hotel at 1:30pm.

We Provide
The fee includes bus transportation, lunch, and bottled water.
You Bring
A hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, and insect repellent. Light clothing that dries quickly is ideal. Weather will be chilly in the mornings, and get hotter during the day – a jacket and layered attire is suggested. You may also want to bring a camera and binoculars.
Important
Both tours entail walking a fairly long distance, and some walking over uneven terrain. Comfortable shoes are a must.
Cancellation Deadline
Refunds for cancellations will be issued until March 22, minus a $25.00 processing fee. Refunds will not be issued after March 22.
If an insufficient number of registrants sign up, field trips are subject to cancellation. If the trip is cancelled, you will receive a 100% refund.
