Five Steps to Secure Approval to Attend NCER 2016

Now is a time to get back to basics, grow your business, gain market share and seize the opportunity. Yes, opportunity. Despite what you have been hearing now is a great opportunity for you and your organization to create lasting success.

Here are five good ideas to consider when you approach your organization for funding. Try one step, try all five, but choose an approach that makes sense for your unique situation.

Step One:

Communicate!
Talk to your supervisor about the benefits of attending NCER ’16. Be sure to discuss specific ways that your attendance will benefit the company.

Step Two:

Put your plan on paper.
Now that the program agenda is available, choose specific sessions that apply to your position and company objectives. Use the tools that will be available on this site to print out your plan and share it with your supervisor.

Step Three:

Make sense of the dollars.
Is cost the make or break issue? Try attaching a dollar amount to increased revenue you generate by attending, or money your company can save through minimized mistakes and increased efficiency as a result of learning lessons already learned by others in the industry.

Step Four:

Remember to follow-up.
After the conference, make sure you report on your conference activities, including sessions you attended and vendors you visited. What products and services did you learn about? Did you get any ideas that will help you be more efficient?

Step Five:

Revamp the "Buddy System."
If your company already sends one or more people to NCER, consider reasons to send one more. Is your area of expertise different from your colleagues who currently attend? Are there overlapping sessions and events that cannot be covered by one person alone? Remember, NCER education benefits professionals at all levels and a trip to NCER 2016 is perfect for team building and mentoring.
