Summit Summary
"Roots of Resilience: Cultivating a Sustainable Future"
We were pleased to host the 17th Annual Southeast Florida Climate Leadership Summit, bringing together government officials, scientists, nonprofit organizations, business leaders, academia, media, community leaders, and international organizations.
Guided by the theme “Roots of Resilience: Cultivating a Sustainable Future,” the Summit highlighted the importance of regional alignment, data-informed decision-making, and sustained investment in people and places. Leaders from across sectors shared lessons learned and showcased innovative approaches, including nature-based infrastructure and resilient urban design.
Sessions connected global trends to local conditions by examining regional indicators such as sea-level rise and increasing extreme weather risks, while emphasizing the need to integrate resilience across housing, infrastructure, transportation, and community development. Discussions also explored how resilience can be embedded into daily government operations, emergency management, and long-term planning, supported by emerging technologies and visualization tools that enhance engagement and decision-making.
By combining policy leadership with on-the-ground innovation, the Summit helped to strengthen regional partnerships and renew momentum toward a more resilient and sustainable future for Southeast Florida. We would like to thank everyone who helped make the Summit a success, including our session organizers, moderators, panelists, showcase presenters, companies and organizations whose generous financial support made this Summit possible.
Since 2008, the four Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact counties - Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe - have successfully collaborated on mitigation and adaptation strategies, built bipartisan support for climate action, and forged partnerships with key stakeholders, enabling the development of a regional voice and vision for future prosperity in Southeast Florida.
