Conference Purpose
The purpose of the conference is to bring together those with an interest in the status of pepper research, extension and technology. Topics of interest will include:
- Breeding and Genetics (germplasm evaluation and utilization, crop physiology and technology – the conference attracts key breeders from around the world)
- Horticultural Management and Production (including production methods, cultural systems and sustainable approaches)
- Integrated Pest Management (insect and disease management, biological control) which will feature a dedicated breakout session focused on the biology, ecology and management of pepper weevil
- Post-Harvest Issues (post-harvest physiology and technology, economics, marketing and trade)

Pepper Weevil – Biology, Ecology and Management

Of special interest will be our breakout session focused on Pepper Weevil – Biology, Ecology and Management. As you may know the pepper weevil (PW) Anthonomus eugenii is the key pest of any and all pepper varieties in the southern US, Mexico, Central America and much of the Caribbean. With origins in Mexico, pepper weevil continues to increase its range, in the northeastern US, as well as Canada where it is now a perennial greenhouse pest, and has recently been found in Holland and Italy and is notoriously difficult to control with insecticides.
