Plant Conservation Alliance
The Plant Conservation Alliance collaboration among 15 U.S. federal government agencies and 400+ non-federal cooperators works to ensure that native plant populations and their communities are maintained, enhanced, and restored. We developed the 2015 National Seed Strategy for Rehabilitation and Restoration to address widespread shortages of native seed needed for restoration. In its first five years, 380 federal, tribal, state, and non-governmental partners reported progress toward the Strategy’s goals, implementing 460 projects across 52 states and U.S. territories.
Native plant communities are nature’s true green infrastructure, providing nature-based solutions to restore ecosystem function, address post-disaster response and site stabilization, control and manage invasive plants, and improve ecosystem resilience for our iconic habitats in the face of the climate and extinction crisis. Private sector production of locally native seeds and plants for restoration projects is an important part of the restoration economy, providing jobs that directly support climate change adaptation and resilience, while tackling the climate crisis at home
Collaboration is key to putting the right seed in the right place at the right time! Join us during the U.N. Decade on Ecosystem Restoration to accelerate the pace and scale of restoration across the U.S.!
