Conference Goals
Like previous MMMs, the Mangrove & Macrobenthos Meeting will bring together scientists from multiple disciplines and managers who work on mangroves. This conference seeks to raise awareness about current pressing issues and address topical challenges associated with relationships between the plants and animals that live in these coastal wetlands as well as human-mangrove interactions. The aim of this conference is to increase the profile of our field of research and mangrove ecology in general.
MMM4’s goals are to:
- promote interdisciplinary research on mangroves and associated coastal ecosystems;
- build and strengthen further linkages and collaborations among mangrove specialists;
- educate students, scientists, decision-makers, managers, the media, and the general public; and
- facilitate communications among all these groups on a global scale.
This meeting gives mangrove and coastal ecosystem researchers, managers, students, and decision-makers multiple opportunities to learn and exchange ideas, as well as to collectively tackle the challenges unique to this system. We look forward to a week-long conversation that stretches from the top of the canopy to the bottom of the sea, including the flora, fauna, biogeochemical cycles, climate change, human impacts, economics, and management of these delicate ecosystems.
