Florida Master Naturalist Program

Attendance Policy:

• You cannot miss more than 8 hours (20% of the 40 contact hours) This is a FMNP policy and cannot be modified by the Instructor.
• To receive certification, the 8 hours or less missed must be made up by completing an assignment of equal time and content. Approval of the Instructor is required.
• If total hours missed exceeds 8 hours, certification is not possible regardless of material made up.
• All absences should be discussed with the instructor in advance. In case of emergencies, please notify the instructor as soon as possible.

Make-Up Time Frame
If you miss a class or a field trip, you must make up the same material. Makeup time should be completed within a week whenever possible. You may make up a field trip on your own. In this situation, please let me know where and when you plan on a make-up field trip. You will be required to provide a short summary of the trip, including interpretation, photos, and observation data via iNaturalist or a similar app or platform.

Classroom Presentations will be held at the Oxbow Eco-Center (5400 NE St. James Drive, Port St. Lucie, FL 34983). It has public parking and Internet.

Bring Course Material to Class Each Day:
• If you ordered the manual PDF, bring a charged electronic device to each classroom session.
• If you ordered a hardcopy course booklet, bring it to each classroom session.

Schedule Flexibility
We will adhere to the listed times as closely as possible, but we ask for your flexibility and grace if circumstances change. Course time does not include your travel time.

Food & Drinks
Please adhere to any rules of our host location regarding food and drink. We ask that you refrain from using single-use plastic bot-tles and bring reusable water bottles and cups. We also ask that you, as much as possible, bring food in reusable containers and limit the use of Styrofoam and other disposable materials.

Cell Phones
Please keep your ringer silent or on vibrate. If you need to take a call, please answer it outside the classroom. And use the sched-uled breaks to make phone calls. Of course, in an emergency, please excuse yourself from the class immediately to make or take any necessary calls.

In-Person Field Trips
Locations and times are subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances. It is the participant’s responsibility to verify meeting information. Transportation and lunches are not included. Times do not include travel time to the meeting locations. Carpooling is recommended, especially in areas with limited parking.

Field Trip Preparation Recommendations

Required:

• Close-toed shoes. Please, no flip-flops or footwear that leaves exposed skin.
• Water must be carried with you. Please bring a reusable water bottle. I will bring extra water for refills.
• Sun-protection - hat, sunglasses, sunscreen (reef-safe for in-water activity, please)
• Weather-appropriate clothing

Recommended:
Snacks, insect repellent, towels, a change of clothes, field guides, binoculars, a notebook, and a pencil
