Diseases of Warmwater Fish is an intensive two-week class designed to provide instruction in the methodology of diagnosis and treatment of parasitic, bacterial, viral, nutritional, and environmental diseases of warm water food fish and aquarium species. This course is open to students, veterinarians, fisheries biologists, aquaculturists, and professional aquarists. Enrollment is limited and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Students are asked to provide their own compound microscopes if possible. A limited number of microscopes will be available for student use, but those students who are able to bring a microscope are requested to do so. Dissecting equipment and other supplies will be provided. The text Fish Disease: Diagnosis and Treatment by Dr. Ed Noga (Iowa State University Press) is strongly recommended. An in-house library will be available, but students are asked to bring Dr. Nogas book if possible. The course will be held at two consecutive locations. The first week (June 2-6) will be at the University of Floridas Tropical Aquaculture Laboratory located in Ruskin, Florida (near Tampa). The second week (June 7-12) will be at The Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience, located south of St. Augustine. The last day (June 13) will be held at Sea World of Florida in Orlando.
