Q. I started my registration, but was interrupted. Am I registered?

A. No. your registration is not marked as complete until your form of payment has been submitted. (If sending checks or deferring payment, you are considered registered so long as the “check” or “invoice” option has been selected and submitted.) Registration is complete once you arrive at the confirmation screen and receive a copy of the confirmation in your email.

Q. I work for a government agency that has restrictions on when I can pay for my registration. Can I register now and defer payment?

A. Yes. In order to defer payment, select the invoice option when prompted for payment. Q. I don’t want to attend the Short Course this year; I’d rather cancel my registration. Can I do that?

Requests for registration refunds will be honored if written notice of cancellation is received by the UF/IFAS Office of Conferences & Institutes (OCI) on or before September 29, 2020. A $50.00 processing fee will be deducted from all Short Course refunds if you cancel within two weeks of registering, a $100 processing fee will be deducted after the two weeks, and a $10.00 processing fee will be deducted from all Optional Pre-Short Course Session refunds. No refunds will be honored for cancellations after September 29, 2020. email: kimmer72@ufl.edu.

Q. Can I transfer my registration to the 2021 Short Course when things will be back to normal?

NO. Registration for this year’s Short Course cannot be transferred to next year’s Short Course.

Q. Can I bring my own mask or face shield?

A. YES. We will provide masks or shields for attendees but you may use your own if you prefer, as long as your nose and mouth are completely covered. Mask usage is MANDATORY during the entire Short Course; if you are inside the building you MUST wear a mask.

Q. I need to attend the Short Course so I can get my CEUs but I’m high-risk due to age or pre-existing conditions. I’m not comfortable being in a gathering of any size. What should I do?

A. Please email Dr. Gettys (lgettys@ufl.edu) with the subject line “AWCSC high-risk”.

Q. How many CEUs are needed to renew my FDACS license?

A. Licenses are valid for 4 years. To renew using CEUs, all licensed applicators must earn 4 Core/General Standards CEUs plus category-specific CEUs for each category in which they are licensed. Common categories include Aquatics (16 CEUs), Natural Areas (16 CEUs), Right of Way (8 CEUs) and Forest (8 CEUs).

Q. I need to take the Core, Aquatics and/or Natural Areas exam and expected to be able to attend exam preparation sessions but they’re not on the agenda. Why?

A. The program has been streamlined to maximize space usage and to accommodate as many attendees as possible. As a result, the exam preparation sessions were eliminated from the 2020 program. If you need access to exam preparation materials, please email Dr. Gettys (lgettys@ufl.edu) with the subject line “AWCSC exam prep”.

Q. Will I be able to take FDACS exams on Friday afternoon?

A. Maybe. Some sites will be offering testing. We recommend you check with your remote site host once your location has been assigned to see if testing will be available. You can also visit the FDACS webpage to schedule your exam.

Remote Site FAQs

Q. Will I have access to sponsors at a remote site?

A. All sponsors have been offered the opportunity to include materials in the “swag bag” that will be given to attendees at all sites.

Q. Will I get a world-famous “Florida Weed Science” t-shirt if I attend at a remote site?

A. ABSOLUTELY!!! Be sure to include your shirt size when you register for the Short Course.

Q. What CEUs will be available to attendees at remote sites?

A. Remote attendees will be able to earn a total of 20 CEUs: 2 Core/General Standards, 10 Aquatic, 4 Natural Areas or Right-of-Way and 4 “wild card” (Aquatic, Natural Areas or Right-of-Way). This does differ from what you’d be able to earn at a normal Short Course. If you need a different assortment of CEUs (for example: you need 4 Core and 16 Aquatic CEUs but can only earn 2 Core and 14 Aquatic CEUs at a remote site), please email Dr. Gettys (lgettys@ufl.edu) with the subject line “CEU deficit remote site”.

Q. I want to attend the special pre-Short Course plant identification session; can I do that?

A. Yes. The pre-Short Course session will be offered virtually and anyone can attend, however, space is limited, so we recommend you register before space fills. If you already registered for the Short Course and would like to add the pre-Short Course session, please email Kim Brand at kimmer72@ufl.edu.
