Conference Overview

The Conference on Applied Statistics in Agriculture and Natural Resources brings together statisticians and researchers across academia, industry, and government to share insights and advancements in the application of statistics to address challenges in Agriculture and Natural Resources. The conference will feature a workshop on day one, followed by two and a half days with/of sessions for contributed papers and poster presentations.

With a unique interdisciplinary focus, this conference also provides students and emerging scholars with exposure to statistical research that directly impacts Agriculture and Natural resources. We emphasize the practical application of statistics to solve real-world challenges, showcasing the collaborative efforts between statisticians and researchers in agriculture and natural resources. The relaxed atmosphere of this conference allows for participants to submit abstracts made jointly by a statistician and researcher. Presentation of data sets and analyses which motivated the work shares equal importance with development of the statistical theory. Papers on either new or innovative applications of existing statistical methodologies are appropriate for presentation at this conference. Students are encouraged to participate in the juried oral and poster presentation competition.

We look forward to welcoming you to Gainesville in May 2025!

Conference History

Starting in 1989, the Conference on Applied Statistics in Agriculture was held for 30 years on an annual basis in Manhattan, Kansas. The conference provided a unique forum for discussion of statistical issues motivated by agricultural problems and brought together statisticians and researchers from academia, industry and government to develop and discuss new methodologies and innovative applications in statistics for the advancement of agricultural research. This conference also holds a tradition of exposing students and developing scholars to new statistical research directly relevant to agriculture. Statistical topics presented and discussed at the Conference on Applied Statistics in Agriculture varied broadly over the years and included, amongst many others, graphical models and causal inference, machine learning, spatio-temporal statistical models, statistical methods for genome-enabled prediction of complex traits, graphics, Bayesian inference, generalized linear mixed models, statistics for messy data, modern experimental design and statistical issues in QTL mapping and epigenomics.
