Call for Abstracts
Submission Deadline: June 22, 2020
The ACES 2020 conference central theme is "Focusing on the Future of Ecosystem Services" with emphasis placed on accelerating the use of ecosystem services for land and resource management and fostering the next generation of ecosystem service researchers and practitioners.
The Program Committee is seeking input from the community and invites you to assist with program development via the abstract submission process. All individuals interested in ecologic, economic, market, geographic, institutional, educational, outreach, and management aspects of ecosystem services are strongly encouraged to submit an abstract for oral or poster presentation. All abstracts will go through a review and selection process, and all selected abstracts will be published in the conference Book of Abstracts.
All ecosystem services related research and applications abstracts are welcome; we especially encourage ideas on these topics:
- Ecosystem Services* in Action – land and resource management using ecosystem services, case studies encouraged
- Human Physical and Mental Health Benefits of Ecosystem Services – translation of ecosystem function to human health outcomes and valuation; mental health studies of ecosystem services
- Cultural Ecosystem Services – non-use ecosystem services methods and valuation
- Tools Demo – consider submitting an abstract for a special organized tools session, which will feature five tools at individual tables where participants will be able to see live demonstrations of the tool (laptop required) and will switch to the next table after 15 minutes.
*Ecosystem services may be known as an alternative name (natural capital, ecological benefits, etc.) – terminology should not limit submission of ideas.
Individual abstract submissions will be grouped topically to form thematic sessions. These sessions, combined with pre-organized sessions, will be used to prepare the conference agenda.
All standard concurrent sessions are 105 minutes long and consist of a 5-minute introduction and five 20-minute talks (15 minutes for the talk and 5 minutes for Q&A). Speakers must register to participate and submit PowerPoint files at least 24 hours prior to their talk.
Posters will be on display throughout the conference in the Poster & Sponsor Display Room. This is the primary gathering spot where morning, mid-day, and afternoon refreshments will be served. The agenda will also feature lunches and a Poster Session Reception in this room. These networking functions maximize opportunities for interaction between presenters, colleagues, and sponsors.
This year’s conference will include a new format – Lightning Talks (5-minute presentations) associated with posters. This will provide an opportunity for speakers to maximize their impact by increasing audience size and provide participants with overviews of diverse topics which can be followed up in-depth during a dedicated poster session.
Registration Required to Participate
All participants including speakers, poster presenters, panelists, session organizers and moderators are expected to register and pay for the conference before September 10, 2020 to confirm participation on the program agenda. Conference organizers reserve the right to cancel any session if deadlines are missed by the session organizer and/or speakers. We strongly encourage attendance and participation in the conference beyond just this session.
If you wish to make an oral or poster presentation, please submit an abstract no later than June 22, 2020. Abstracts must be submitted online via the ACES website.
Abstract submitters will be notified by August 10, 2020 whether they were accepted to the conference program and their designated presentation format. Because of the high level of interest in this event, we cannot guarantee that all presentation format requests will be honored.
