CIMR
an international symposium on: Climate
Information
for
Managing
Risks
The first CIMR symposium (pronounced “simmer” as
things are really heating up) was held in June 2008. One of
the recommendations from this event was that a follow-up
symposium should be held after 2 to 3 years; hence we are pleased to announce CIMR 2011, which
will be held in Orlando, FL on 24-26 May 2011. The full set
of recommendations from CIMR 2008 is available at:
www.conference.ifas.ufl.edu/CIMR08.
Like CIMR
2008, CIMR 2011 will emphasize the challenges of applying
climate information and predictions at local and regional
levels, for regions and locations from around the world. The
differences between CIMR 2008 and 2011 are several and
reflect society’s changing needs for climate information as
well as advances in scientific understanding. CIMR 2011 will
address climate related vulnerabilities, impacts, and
opportunities for adaptation, both mitigation of negative
impacts and exploitation of positive impacts. We will
address both climate variability and decadal climate change
as they affect the most vulnerable sectors, namely,
agriculture, water resources, coastal communities and
ecosystems, and terrestrial ecosystems.
