Norman Borlaug – Nobel Peace Prize winner, 1970; well known for spearheading the Green Revolution that avoided large-scale hunger in many parts of the world.

Pedro Sanchez – The 2002 World Food Prize laureate; former ICRAF Director-General; currently at the Earth Institute of Columbia University, N.Y; Coordinator for the Hunger Task Force of the United Nations’ Millennium Development Project.

Other leading professionals from throughout the world will participate in the technical program, which includes eight symposia, more than 20 sessions, and two poster sessions. More than 500 abstracts on a variety of agroforestry topics have been received for oral/poster presentations.

This is the first of a series of several short electronic newsletters through which we will share the status and developments in organizing the Congress. The objective is to generate and enhance interest in attending and contributing to WCA; so please share this with your colleagues.

As the name states, this is the first time such a Congress is being organized. It will bring together agroforestry researchers, educators, technology-transfer specialists, and practitioners from all parts of the globe. Agroforestry offers important opportunities for sustainable land management and conservation of natural resources. The unique opportunity offered by the Congress for interaction and information-exchange should not be missed; so we request the cooperation of all in promoting WCA!
