Upon completion of the basic workshop, the student will be able to:

  • Understand the basics of applied Geographic Information Systems using both Raster and Vector data

  • Exhibit proficiency using ESRIís ArcGIS software and extensions

  • Understand Projections and Datums

  • Use GPS systems for wetland delineations and upland buffer determinations

  • Download GPS data to create GIS layers

  • Gather and map water quality samples

  • Establish environmental transects using GPS/GIS

  • Perform basic environmental/spatial analysis using GIS - Buffers, overlays and area calculations

  • Create applied GIS Maps of resulting analysis
