Call for Abstracts for Educational Posters
Submission Deadline: June 1, 2012 extended to 5:00pm, Wednesday, June 13th

IFAS or FAMU State or County Faculty with an Extension appointment working on or interested in topics related to Small Farms and Alternative Enterprises are strongly encouraged to submit an abstract for consideration as a poster for the Florida Small Farms and Alternative Enterprises Conference.

Purpose: The purpose of the posters will be to deliver research based information to small farms and alternative enterprise clientele using a poster format. Posters will be a valuable addition to the educational program sessions, and a fantastic opportunity to increase the visibility of IFAS programs to a diverse and enthusiastic clientele.

Posters selected from abstract submissions will be displayed 5:30pm-7:30pm Friday, July 27 during the Exhibit Preview and Opening Reception and during the conference 7:00am-4:30pm Saturday, July 28. Posters will not be on display Sunday. The posters will be located in the pre-conference area. This is a high traffic area and will give participants ample opportunity to view your poster.

The poster titles and authors will be published in the conference onsite program. The abstracts will be shared via the conference website. A pdf of the poster will also be posted on the website post-conference. Use these opportunities to communicate details of your work and submit your abstract today in order to take part in this educational exchange.

While poster presenters are not required to be available at their posters, they are required to register and participate in the conference. The early reduced registration ends July 9, 2012.

If you wish to present a poster, please submit an abstract for review by 5:00pm, June 1, 2012.

ABSTRACT PREPARATION AND SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

Accepted abstracts will be posted on the conference website if the submission is made by the deadline (June 1). Poster titles and authors will be printed in the onsite program. Follow the below guidelines for abstract preparation prior to summiting. Abstracts should be submitted electronically to Committee Chair, Dan Fenneman, Madison County Extension Office, dfenneman@ufl.edu

• Abstracts should be submitted as either a Microsoft Word or a Rich Text Format file. Do NOT submit as a PDF.  
• Abstracts should be limited to about 250 words
• No graphs or figures. Abstract should be text only.
• Use standard "letter" paper size (8.5" X 11").
• Set margins at 1", top, bottom and sides.
• Use Arial font and set font size to 10 points.
• Limit the title to one line. It should be short, yet accurately reflect the abstract and later poster.
• Type abstract title flush left at the top of the page.
• Type abstract title in upper and lower case, standard title format.
  - EXAMPLE: Affordable Techniques for Farming on 200 Acres or Less
• Type the body of the abstract single spaced without indents or tabs.
• Double space between paragraphs
• Apply bolding, italics, underlining, superscripts and subscripts in your main text as you want it to appear in your final abstract.
• List the senior author first.
• Identify author affiliations using superscript numeral references (Refer to Sample Format):
• Please do not include professional titles of the authors. Include ONLY the affiliation name, city, state and country in abstract listing. (DO NOT include full mailing address at the top of the abstract. It draws focus away from your abstract)
• Include the contact information of one author attending the conference in the event of questions about the information. Layout should be as follows:

Upon acceptance, you will be asked to register for the conference by July 9 and submit a pdf of the poster to include on the website post-conference by August 1.

SAMPLE FORMAT OF AN ABSTRACT

Affordable Techniques for Farming on 200 Acres or Less Terry R. Farmer1, J. Mark Genesis1 and S. The abstract will be read by hundreds of people. The abstract should be as informative as possible and cover six key areas: Purpose; Scope, Methods used; Results; Conclusions, and Recommendations. Limit your abstract to ½ a page with 1-inch margins – top, bottom, and sides. Font should be San Serif and preferably Arial at 10 points, NOT smaller. One ½ page is approximately 250 words, contingent on the number of authors, affiliations, and paragraph breaks. Abstracts should be submitted as either a Microsoft Word or a Rich Text Format file. POSTER DISPLAY INFORMATION

• UPDATE: Posters will be located in the pre-function area the exhibition building.
• Poster boards will be freestanding.
• Posters must be presented using the poster boards provided by the Conference. Presenters may not use their own self-contained displays. Due to constrictions and safety, no tables or electricity will be provided.
• Posters will be limited to 4 feet high x 6 feet wide (1.22M high x 1.83M wide). Allow a 4-inch x 4-inch space (10.16cm x 10.16cm) for a poster number in the upper left-hand corner of your poster. Information will be sent to you closer to the conference about your specific poster location.

• Poster boards are covered with fabric, and posters can be affixed using either Velcro or ¾” long push pins. Tape is not permitted. A limited supply of Velcro tape will be available for your use during mounting, but we recommend you bring a supply with you. Multiple strips two inches in length work best. Bring a small holder if supplying Flyers, the abstract, or cards and adhered using Velcro or pushpins.

Poster Schedule

• Poster Setup: 1:00pm-5:00pm, Friday, July 27
  Poster Removal: 4:30pm Saturday, July 28 when the Exhibit Hall closes.
• Posters will be on Display:
  5:00pm-7:00pm, Friday, July 27 during the Exhibit Preview and Opening Reception
  7:00am-4:30pm, Saturday, July 28.
• Authors are not required to be present by their posters discussion.

Post-Conference
