The program will address many changes that are occurring and will continue to influence research and extension programs at state and global levels.  These changes are driven to a large extent by:

• Increases in human populations, with projections of a global population of over 9 billion people by the middle of this century 
• Changes in climate, climate variability and sea levels
• Decreasing availabilities of fresh water, arable land, fossil fuels, and materials

Climate change is one of the most important issues that all colleges in our universities and all segments of society must consider as they plan for the future. This challenge was not considered even 50 years ago. Now, it is a key component in universities’ agendas and in federal, state, and local agencies.
