7th International
Economic Outlook Conference for

Citrus and
Non-Citrus Juices

Orlando, Florida  October 26-27, 2000

This course has concluded -- the information is provided here to assist you in planning for your attendance at future courses.

Conference Theme

The focus of the 7th International Economic Outlook Conference for Citrus and Non-Citrus Juices is Trade Policy and Its Implications for the World Fruit Juice Industry.  The last ten years have witnessed rapid changes in trade policy.  Over that period, the European Union was strengthened, and it now has adopted a common currency.  The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was implemented which will result in the eventual elimination of tariffs on trade among Canada, the United States, and Mexico.

MERCOSUR forms a similar free trade zone among Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay.  In the Uruguay Round of GATT, worldwide reductions in tariffs on agricultural and food products were negotiated.  A Free Trade Area of the Americas has been proposed which would merge not only the countries covered under NAFTA and MERCOSUR, but extend the free trade zone to include nearly all of the countries of the Western Hemisphere.

Changes in trade policy, both implemented and pending have significant ramifications for the world fruit juice industry.  Experts from around the world will discuss the possible implications of a more liberalized venue for trade in fruit juice products.
