Ecosystem-based management of Florida
natural resources is place-based and spatially explicit. GIS
is a valuable tool for natural resource managers and
scientists who integrate, analyze, and communicate data
pertaining to a region, watershed, spring shed, or
catchment.
To support the continuing technical
education of faculty, staff, and agency professionals,
University of Florida faculty will conduct a 3-day
introductory training workshop in the use of ArcGIS 9.3, a
powerful tool for managing natural resources and guiding
growth and development processes. The primary objective of
this training is to provide novices with practical, hands-on
instruction in the use of GIS by using natural resource
exercises.
The
skills, knowledge and understanding to be developed
in the
course include:

and Designing Layouts

among Coordinate Systems

and Using Models
- Where to Get Help
Participants must be proficient with
Microsoft Windows—able to use a mouse; navigate to and among
directories; cut, copy, and paste files and text; etc.

This course will be held on the
University of Florida campus in the Computer Laboratory located
in Room 2103 of McCarty Hall B in Gainesville, FL.

Parking
If you plan to drive to the workshop,
please note that the University of Florida has limited
parking available to visitors on-campus. For instructions on

Registration
The Workshop Registration Fee provides
participants with the educational program, access to the GIS
lab and workshop materials.
The Registration fee is $400/person.
Students (for example, graduate students) may register for
$200.
The registration form includes three
main parts:

Once you complete the Attendee Contact
Information section of the form, you will arrive at the
payment screen where you can choose from three payment
options:

Pay by
credit card
-
Indicate
you will be mailing a check (have the check number handy
if possible) or
- Request an Invoice* (Please choose
this option if special funding arrangements have been
made for you)
*Once you complete the process, a
printable confirmation form appears on your screen. PRINT A
COPY. If the form indicates a REMAINING BALANCE DUE, this
serves as your INVOICE. If you have a ZERO BALANCE, the form
serves as your RECEIPT OF PAYMENT. Be sure to keep a copy
for your accounting records. If you do not receive a
confirmation form, contact our registration department at
352-392-5930. We are open Monday through Friday, 9:00am –
5:00pm Eastern Time Zone.

Cancellation Policy:
For registrations canceled by November 30th, a $50
processing fee will be deducted from the refund. After
November 30th, no refunds will be issued.
Special Needs: Special needs (such as visual,
hearing or walking impairments) of registered attendees
can be reasonably accommodated if they contact Garin
Davidson at least 10 working days prior to the workshop.
