Hello Master Gardeners!
I am so excited that the 2011 Master Gardener Continued
Training Conference has arrived and am thrilled to once
again bring the conference to the Orlando area. There are so
many activities available in the area from entertainment,
theme parks, night spots, great restaurants and incredible
shopping. There is surely something to please anyone. This
conference provides a great opportunity to get the latest
information right from the specialists, meet new people and
to create some magical memories.
This year we started again with an afternoon of optional
field trips. One trip focused on plant production, while the
other trip focused on gardens. Both trips were well attended
and the MGs that went are sure to be full of stories to
This year our general sessions are quite diverse and
include topics highlighting growing edibles, learning what’s
new in the area of IPM, sustainable gardening, people-plant
connections and dealing with gardening challenges. In the
concurrent sessions, we have a Florida-Friendly Landscape
track and a wide range of topics sure to increase your
knowledge and make you an even better volunteer.
As we do each year, we have a welcome reception and the
awards program where you can see your fellow volunteers get
recognized for their service and excellent projects. Don’t
forget to organize your county team to participate in the
4-H Plant ID and Judging Competition
The conference would not be possible without the support
of our sponsors. This year, Scotts is again participating as
a gold level sponsor supporting the welcome reception and
supporting the presentation on sustainable gardening. The
Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the
Florida-Friendly Landscaping Program™ and the
in a Minute radio show all help to make this event possible.
We hope that you learn the latest information, take
advantage of all the area entertainment, make new friends
and reconnect with those you have met in the past. I hope to
get to talk to you during the conference.
