Introduction

This unique course offers:

  • a complete review of all technical aspects of structural fumigation

  • instruction by a team of over 15 qualified and experienced professionals, manufacturer reps and University of Florida faculty

  • a combination of classroom and field demonstrations

  • hands-on training with fumigation equipment including: fumiscope, interscan, detector tubes, fumiguide systems and SCBA

  • instruction in avoiding costly fumigation errors with “tips from the professionals”

  • updates on recent fumigation research and changes in labeling and regulations

  • limited class size allows more individual attention for participants

  • Florida’s SPID and fumigation examinations offered by DACS at the completion of the course. Learn to identify structural pests controlled by fumigants

Important Deadlines

For participants taking SPID exam, it is the participant’s responsibility to apply to DACS by October 12, 2004.  (for qualified Florida residents only).

Registration deadline for the course has been extended to November 8, 2004.

Hotel registration must be made by November 1, 2004 for discount rate.  Participants will need to provide their own transportation to and from the hotel.

SPID and Fumigation Exams

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) will be offering the Special ID Card (SPID) and Fumigation Examinations on Saturday, 20 November 2004 in conjunction with the UF’ School of Structural Fumigation. If you are interested in taking either exam, you must first complete the DACS exam application and submit it with the required fees to The Bureau of Entomology and Pest Control, FDACS, 1203 Governors Square Boulevard, Suite 300, Tallahassee, Florida 32301-2961 postmarked on or before the deadline date of 12 October 2004. If you need an application or have questions, please call the Bureau at 850-921-4177.

FDACS EXAM FEES*:

$200 SPID Exam (Special Identification Card - Fumigation)
$225 Fumigation Certification Exam

*Exam fees are to be paid directly to the Florida Department of Agriculture
and Consumer Services as instructed above.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: The application deadline to take an examination is October 12, 2004.

Examination Preparation: Throughout the weeklong training program, we will review most of the
material that will be covered on the certification exams. In addition, it is highly recommend you register for the examination review session scheduled Friday, November 19 from 2pm-5pm. There is a nominal fee of $25 to participate in this portion of the program. When registering, be sure to indicate if you plan to participate in the review session. We also encourage you to read the appropriate training manual recommended by FDACS staff.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for Florida License Holders: Upon completion of this program, certified operators and special identification cardholders in Florida can receive up to six CEUs (two core, two termite and/or two fumigation). Requirements for awarding CEUs vary by state and specific questions about CEU and renewal requirements should be referred to your state's Certification Office. Fumigators wishing to earn CEUs must present a Commercial, Public and/or Private License and a social security number to have CEUs applied toward license renewal. If you have questions about continuing education, you can email Elsa Schutzman at: schutze@doacs.state.fl.us

If you are from outside the state of Florida, we will provide you with a Certificate of Completion and a copy of the program agenda upon conclusion of the program. Then if you wish to apply for CEUs from your state, simply contact your state's licensing office and provide them with these materials and they will determine if CEUs are applicable within your state.

Refund Policy: Requests for registration refunds will be honored if written notification of cancellation is received by the Office of Conferences on or before November 1, 2004. A $125.00 processing fee will be deducted from all refunds. Sorry, no refunds will be honored for cancellations after November 1, 2004.

Lodging and Accommodations: Lodging is available throughout the program at the nearby Homestead Studio Suites located at 7560 State Rd 84, Davie, FL 33314. Ph. 954-476-1211. The Homestead Studio Suites in Davie is located eight miles from the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport. Each attractive studio suite features a fully equipped kitchen, something you won't find in a typical hotel. Plus, there's a comfortable workspace.

A special rate of $47.99 per night with one person in a room is available for participants of the Structural Fumigation School (Rate is subject to 11% tax). Reservations must be made by Monday, November 1, 2004 in order to receive this group rate. After November 1, the group rate may no longer be available.
