Call for Abstracts for Educational Posters
Submission Deadline: 5:00pm, Friday, June 7th

IFAS or FAMU State or County Faculty with an Extension appointment working on or interested in topics related to Small Farms and Alternative Enterprises are strongly encouraged to submit an abstract for consideration as a poster for the Florida Small Farms and Alternative Enterprises Conference.

Purpose: The purpose of the posters will be to deliver research based information to small farms and alternative enterprise clientele using a poster format. Posters provide a valuable source for interaction and are fantastic opportunity to increase the visibility of IFAS programs to a diverse and enthusiastic clientele. Initiated in 2012, the top three posters will also be recognized at the conference and on the website after the conference has concluded. (Click here to view the 2012 poster winners.) Use this opportunity to communicate details of your work and submit your abstract today.

• Refer to the Sample Format of an Abstract for instructions on preparing an abstract.
• Submit your abstract to Dan Fenneman, Email: dfenneman@ufl.edu by 5:00pm, June 7, 2013.
• The agenda topics may be used as a guide, but we welcome submissions on other topics that would be beneficial to Florida’s small, mid and alternative enterprising agriculture sectors.
• Poster titles and authors of accepted abstracts will be published in the onsite program.
• The abstracts of accepted abstracts will be shared on the conference website.
• PDF of posters will be included on the website post-conference; submit a pdf of the actual poster by August 7.
• Posters will be judged Saturday at the conference and the best three will be awarded ribbons, and recognized post-conference on the website. CLICK HERE to view past winners

• While poster presenters are not required to be available at their posters, they are required to register and participate in the conference. Early registration ends July 12, 2013.

SAMPLE FORMAT OF AN ABSTRACT

Limit the Abstract Title to One Line. It Should Be the Same Title as the Poster Title First Author1, Second Author1 and Third Author2 1Soil and Water Science Department, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL 2Environmental Horticulture Department, Florida A&M University, Tallahassee, FL This is a sample of the body of the abstract. Limit your abstract to approximately 250 words. Use 1-inch margins – top, bottom, and sides. Font should be San Serif and preferably Arial at 10 points, do not use a smaller font size. Submit abstract in Microsoft Word or Rich Text Format file. The abstract will be read by hundreds of people. Prior to sending your abstract, proof one last time. The contact information at end of the abstract should be the point of contact to receive communication for abstract status and later questions. It should be limited to one person. Upon acceptance, at least one author should register and participate in the conference. Registration deadline is July 12. You will also be asked to submit a pdf of the poster by August 7 to include on the website post-conference. The three top posters will be recognized at the conference and on the conference website. POSTER DISPLAY INFORMATION

• Posters will be located in the pre-function area the exhibition building. This is a high traffic area and will give participants ample opportunity to view your poster.
• Poster boards will be freestanding.
• Posters must be presented using the poster boards provided by the Conference. Presenters may not use their own self-contained displays. Due to constrictions and safety, no tables or electricity will be provided.
• Posters will be limited to 4 feet high x 6 feet wide (1.22M high x 1.83M wide). Allow a 4-inch x 4-inch space (10.16cm x 10.16cm) for a poster number in the upper left-hand corner of your poster. Information will be sent to you closer to the conference about your specific poster location.
            

• Poster boards are covered with fabric, and posters can be affixed using either Velcro or ¾” long push pins. Tape is not permitted. A limited supply of Velcro tape will be available for your use during mounting, but we recommend you bring a supply with you. Multiple strips two inches in length work best. Bring a small holder if supplying Flyers, the abstract, or cards and adhered using Velcro or pushpins. Due to space limits, there are not tables by the boards.

Poster Schedule

• Poster Setup: 1:00pm-5:00pm, Friday, August 2
  Poster Removal: 4:30pm Saturday, August 3 when the Exhibit Hall closes.
  
  
• Posters will be on Display:
  5:00pm-7:00pm, Friday, August 2, during the Exhibit Preview and Opening Reception
  7:00am-4:30pm, Saturday, August 3, during the conference. The best three posters will be awarded ribbons.
  
  
• Authors are not required to be present by their posters discussion.

Post-Conference

• By August 7, 2013, submit your poster as a pdf electronically to: Committee Chair, Dan Fenneman, Madison County Extension Office, dfenneman@ufl.edu
